After years of back and forth, Deus Ex Machina finally got Matt Willey, the world-renowned graphic designer, to cast his wares across a range. As obsessed with historical moto culture and intrinsic details as Deus is, Matt went deep into the archives of motor races past to garner inspiration for his range, and the result is an offering littered with master-stokes of strong concepts and deceptively simple design. The mantra was “It looks how it goes, it goes how it looks”. Every detail has been endlessly pondered and tweaked in the name of timeless style.
Matt Willey shares Deus’s nostalgia for the great motor races/drivers/advertisements past, and the No.37 Crew Firecracker is the result of a delightful stroll through the gasoline-soaked archives. The shade aptly reflects its namesake (Firecracker!), the chest embroidery is a reflection of Matt’s fascination with motor racing Mecca Monaco’s coat of arms. And the robust fabrication is a 50/50 blend of regular and recycled Cotton Brushback Fleece.
