How to play Yatzy?
In Yatzy, your goal is to achieve the highest score by strategically filling in your scorecard with various combinations, such as ones, twos, threes, straights, and more. It’s a game that blends chance and decision-making, offering excitement with every roll of the dice.
- The object of the game is to roll five dice in order to score combinations and get the highest total score. Combinations can be thrown in a freely chosen order.
- During each turn, a player can make three dice rolls. The number of dice can be freely chosen, the roll can also be skipped. The game goes clockwise.
- One of the players is chosen as the “writer” who records the results on the game sheet. Each player has one column on the game sheet, where points are entered by category.
- After each play, the players result is recorded on the game sheet, even if it is “0”. Each column can be used to mark the result only once during the game, and the column where “0” has already been marked cannot be used again.
Unless its stated otherwise, each combination gives you points based on the total dice points value of the resulting combination.
ONE TO SIX – Try to roll as many same numbers as possible, their values are added up.
BONUS – A player who collects at least 63 points in the game from the lines above will receive 50 bonus points which will be marked on the BONUS line.
1 PAIR – Try to roll as big of a number on two dices as possible. Those two dices added up will be added to your points.
2 PAIRS – Try to roll two pairs. Those pairs added up will be added to your points.
3 OF A KIND – Three dice have to show the same numbers. The total number of eyes on the three dice will be added to your points.
4 OF A KIND – Four dice have to show the same numbers. The total number of eyes on the four dice will be added to your points.
SMALL STRAIGHT – Five dice show 1-2-3-4-5. This will give you 15 points.
LARGE STRAIGHT – Five dice show 2-3-4-5-6. This will give you 20 points.
FULL HOUSE – The dice show a three and a pair. For example, 6-6-4-4-4. These dice numbers added up will be added to your points.
CHANCE – Add up the readings of all the dice, whatever they are. This is a good option when all ohter lines are filled.
YATZY – All five dice show the same number. You get 50 points.
The player with most points in the of the game is the winner!
